Week of 2/27/17 - 3/3/17

We had a delightful week in third grade starting with an in-school field trip on Tuesday about matter. A scientist from High Touch, High Tech came in and taught us all about the three states of matter.
Also, Culture Day is in full swing!  I am enjoying everyone’s presentations and find the personal connections fascinating.  We’ll have the other half of our class presenting on Monday and Tuesday.
Coming up Next Week:
Spelling:  New spelling words will be going home on Monday.  Also, there will be a new menu of homework activities.  I am asking that 4 activities be completed: one from each column and another of the student’s choice.  This assignment will be due on or before March 10.

Reading & Language Arts:  We continue our unit Culture and Traditions.  We’ll be presenting the remainder of our “Culture Day” projects this week.  Please let me know if you have any questions.  We’ll also be reading and discussing The Matchbox Diaries.

February reading logs are due Wednesday.  A March log will be going home on that same day.

Social Studies:   We have begun reading about the beautiful city of Chicago.  This week we’ll focus on the early history and lakes & rivers.  Students are taking notes in their “Eyewitness Chicago” packets.   If these come home, please make sure they DO NOT leave their binders.

Science:   We’ll be continuing our Space unit (Chapter 10) this week.  The planets will be explored in this lesson!  Our graded review will take place on Friday.  Of course, the students may use their notes and their books!  The tentative date for the Chapter 10 Science test is March 8.

Mrs. Klacza's Math Class:  We will be finishing Unit 5 this week.  A study guide (pretest) will be going home TODAY!  It will need to be completed by Tuesday.  We’ll go over the pretest (and review) on Tuesday; the test will be on Wednesday, March 1.  Then, on to Unit 6!!

Important Dates:
3/3 - End of Trimester 2 and Early Dismissal
3/24 - Shedd Aquarium field trip
End of day 3/24 - Spring Break begins

Have a great weekend!
