Week of 1/6/20 - 1/10/20

We have had such a great week!  Bowling was a lot of fun. The
students were so well behaved!  I've noticed that supplies are starting to
dwindle.  Please ask your child what he/she needs to replenish as we start
a new year and new decade together! Thank you! I hope you all have a
joyous and healthy holiday. Enjoy your families and keep them close.
See you all in 2020!!


Coming Up Next Week:


Spelling:  New words will be coming home on Monday, January 6.  
Homework will be due on or before January 17.  


Reading & Language Arts:  We’ll be writing as we continue our
book called Throw Your Tooth from the Roof. There will be a series of
activities to go along with that story.  We’ll also be writing our New
Year’s Resolutions.


December reading logs will be due the day we get back from break
(December 6.)


Social Science: We continue our science unit on inheritance
and traits. 


Mrs. Klacza's Math Class: Unit 4 will start after Winter Break. It covers fractions and measurement.

Week of 12/16/19 - 12/20/19

We had such a great time at the Tivoli yesterday!  The students
were so respectful and well-behaved!  Our most exciting week is
coming up: the week before Winter Break!!  We’ll be bowling on
Tuesday.  We’ll also be watching the movie Elf as a third grade
on Friday.  


Coming Up Next Week:


Spelling:  No spelling this week; we’ll continue in January!


Reading & Language Arts:  The book Throw Your Tooth from the
Roof will be read and explored!


December reading logs will be due the day we get back from break
(January 6.)


Social Science: We continue our science unit on inheritance
and traits. 


Mrs. Klacza's Math Class: The test date for Unit 2 is Thursday,
12/19.  A study guide (pretest) will go home today and will be
due back on 12/18.  Unit 4 will start after Winter Break.

Week of 12/9/19 - 12/13/19

I hope you all had a great Thanksgiving break; 2 more weeks and 
we’ll be off for the next holiday!!   Speaking of, we’ll be off
to the Tivoli on Thursday to see The Polar Express!  

I’m sending this out a little earlier than usual; I need to attend
a dear friend’s mother’s funeral tomorrow and will be out.  Have
a great weekend!


Coming Up Next Week:

Spelling:  The menu homework will be due on or before
Friday, 12/13. There will also be a test that day.

Reading & Language Arts:  We will explore the famous poem
Twas the Night Before Christmas by close reading it and creating
our own version of the classic tale!

December reading logs are now in your child’s possession.  They will
be due the day we get back from break (December 6.)

Social Science: We have started our science unit on inheritance
and traits.  It will continue this week.

Mrs. Klacza's Math Class: We will continue our unit on multiplication.
The students will be taking a multiplication facts quiz on 2’s on
Wednesday. If students don’t do better than a -4, they
can retake it on Friday.  The test date for Unit 2 is Thursday,
12/19.  A study guide (pretest) will go home on 12/13 and will be
due back on 12/18.

Week of 11/25/19 & Week of 12/2/19

Today is the end of Trimester 1. What a wonderful first one-third of 
the year we’ve had!!  Grades will be finalized soon. I hope you have a
wonderful Thanksgiving break with your families.  This blog will include
information for the two days next week and also the following week. Happy Thanksgiving!!

The Downers Grove field trip was a huge success! I hope your child
had plenty to tell you!



Coming Up Next Week:

Spelling:  No spelling next week; New sorts will come home on
Monday, 12/2. That menu homework will be due on or before
Friday, 12/13. 

Reading & Language Arts:  We will soon be starting our unit on culture.
Our first story is The Keeping Quilt by Patricia Polacco. It’s a great
story about traditions in the Russian culture.

November reading logs are due back on or before December 2.

Social Science: We will be continuing our unit on modern day 
Downers Grove!  We’re also going to be starting Science on 
December 2.  Our unit is about inheritance and traits.

Mrs. Klacza's Math Class: We will continue our unit on multiplication.
On Tuesday, 12/3, I’ll give a short quiz. Also, starting Wednesday,
12/4, the students will be taking a multiplication facts quiz.  We start
With the 0’s and the 1’s. If students don’t do better than a -5, they

Week of 11/18/19 - 11/22/19

Tuesday we visited with some wonderful seniors at Oak Trace.  Did
you ask your child about it? Thank you to Emma’s mom, Dom’s mom,
and Arianna’s dad for coming along!  Our DG field trip is Thursday.
Please make sure your child is dressed for whatever crazy weather
we’re having on that day!  Who knows? It could be sunny and 70!


The end of trimester 1 is November 22. Please make sure you’re
checking those grades!


Our bowling field trip is coming up on December 17.
If your child would like a snack while there, I am attaching the
link to pre-order those snacks.  This is the only way students
will be able to get them.  



Coming Up Next Week:


Spelling:  The due date for the spelling menu homework is 11/22.
There will be a test on that day as well.


Reading & Language Arts:  The finished turkeys are due back on or
before Tuesday. We will be using these “disguised” turkeys to write
a persuasive paragraph convincing the farmer not to eat him for
Thanksgiving dinner.


November reading logs are due back on or before December 1.


Social Science: We will be continuing our unit on modern day 
Downers Grove!


Mrs. Klacza's Math Class: After completing chapter 3, we are
backtracking to chapter 2, Introduction to Multiplication.

Week of 11/11/19 - 11/15/19

Monday is Veterans’ Day and here at PV we have a wonderful assembly
honoring our own veterans (those who have a connection to our Panthers.)
Please contact the office if you are or know a veteran who would like
to join us on Monday.  

Tuesday we will be visiting the Oak Trace Senior Living facility.  I’m
hoping for a wonderful day!   Our Downers Grove trip is on 11/21.
November is a busy month!!

Spelling:  New spelling words and a new menu will be coming home on
Monday.  The due date is 11/22.

Reading & Language Arts:  We’ll continue our Myths unit this week.
We’ll also be making veterans cards!

Week of 11/4/19 - 11/8/19

Thank you for joining me for a conference this week!  It was 
wonderful sitting down with you all and discussing your wonderful
children.  


Thank you, also,  to the wonderful moms who are planning and carrying 
out our Halloween party later today.  I know it will be amazing! Be safe
out there when trick-or-treating!

Reading & Language Arts:  We’ll be starting our Myths lesson; this week
we’ll focus on King Midas.

A study guide has gone home!!


Mrs. Klacza's Math Class: This week our focus will be on Algorithms
for addition and subtraction (Stacking.)  A pretest (study guide) will be
coming home on Tuesday.  The Unit 3 final test will be on Wednesday, 
11/13.

Week of 10/28/19 - 11/1/19

Halloween is almost here!  Please make sure your child brings his/her
costume to school in a bag on Halloween (Thursday.)   Costumes should be
easy to get on and off. Students will be changing in the classroom (we separate
the boys and the girls.) If you have any questions, send me an email.


Don’t forget about the parade (which will begin at 1:55ish.) 
Hopefully the weather will cooperate!

Coming Up Next Week:


Spelling:  A new set of words will be coming home on Monday with a
pink menu. That homework will be due on or before 11/8.


Reading & Language Arts:  We’ll continue our writing this coming week!
Our big writing project,“Buy My Haunted House” has been assigned and
discussed.  Students will be using adjectives, similes, and all kinds
of descriptive words.


October reading logs are due by October 31.


Social Science: We are finishing up our Downers Grove unit.  Our test
Will be on 11/6.  A study guide will go home on 10/29.


Mrs. Klacza's Math Class: We are moving along in Unit 3. We’ll
continue to focus on multi-digit addition and subtraction.  There will be
a short quiz on Monday going over rounding to the nearest 10 and 100,
word problems with estimating/rounding AND finding exact answers, and
adding and subtracting using “stack em up.”
