Week of 4/6/15 - 4/10/15

At today’s end we begin Spring Break.   May it be restful and rejuvenate us all.  Stay safe everyone!
We enjoyed our marble party yesterday.  I’m hoping perhaps we can earn one more before year end.  WE CAN DO IT!!!    

Coming up the week after break:
Spelling:  No spelling due to the shortened week.


Language Arts: We will continue our new unit “Tales as Old as Time.”  We are close reading the short story Mulan and our read-aloud is The Tales of Beedle the Bard by J.K. Rowling.


We’ll finish typing our autobiography project this week.


There will be no WOW words until 4/13.


Social Studies: We will continue our Chicago unit, specifically focusing on the Great Chicago Fire.  


Science:  We’ll begin our next unit of study, the solar system.  Our first graded review will cover lesson 1, the seasons, and will take place on Thursday.  Of course, the children may use their textbooks and notes.


Mrs. Klacza's Math Class:  After a difficult couple of chapters on fractions, we’ll have a little fun and create fraction pizzas.   Look for them at Open House!   Our next unit of study will be Unit 11, Geometry.

Week of 3/16/15 - 3/20/15 & 3/23/15 - 3/27/15

Hurray!   We finish PARCC testing this afternoon!!   We do have a number of makeups to do this week, however, so it’s not the end yet…   Soon!!
I wanted to let you all know that I won’t be sending out a blog next Friday (3/20.)  My husband is having back surgery on 3/19 so I won’t be here the 19th or the 20th.  I’ll give you an update on both weeks in this blog.  Thank you for always being so understanding!!
Also, students have been going outside for recess again.  Great news, but our recess supervisors are telling us that at 11:20 in the morning it is still chilly out; the students need their jackets on!!   Please remind your child that the coats they wear to school are also worn at recess.  
Coming up this week AND the following week:
Spelling:  Lessons 21 and 22.   Cursive homework will be due on Tuesday.  Testing on Fridays.  ABC order OR 2 challenge activities due on Thursday.   

Language Arts: We will begin our new unit called Folktales, Fables, & Myths OH MY!!  Rumpelstiltskin will be our first story which we will close read together.  We’ll also be reading The Tales of Beedle the Bard by J.K. Rowling as our read-aloud.  

We’ll type our autobiography project this week.  

We’ll learn a new set of WOW words both weeks.  The quizzes will be on Fridays.

This week we will continue working in our English textbook, focusing on adverbs!  There will be an adverbs quiz on Friday, 3/20, and an English test on both adjectives and adverbs on Wednesday, 3/25.  We will review before the test.

Social Studies: We will continue our Chicago unit.  Our first quiz will be on Monday, 3/23.  A study guide will come home Tuesday.

Science:  We’ll continue chapter 14, Heat, Light, and Sound.  Our lesson 4 graded review will be on Thursday.  Chapter 14 test will be on Tuesday, 3/24.  

Mrs. Klacza's Math Class:  Our Unit 9 test will be on Monday, 3/16.  We’ll then begin Unit 10, Fraction Comparison and Equivalence.  Our timed division tests will continue until we get to the 11’s.  The final test will be a “mix” and then we’ll be done!   Hooray!!!

Week of 3/9/15 - 3/13/15

It looks like we’ll be having some weather improvement this coming week!   Hopefully, the children will be able to go outside at recess; they truly need it!! Don't forget, this is the weekend we "spring forward."
As we enter week 2 of PARCC testing, please make sure your child wears his/her glasses to school.  Also, a good night’s sleep and a healthy meal plan is essential to success.  We’ll be testing Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.  This week’s tests will be Reading.

 Coming up this week:

Spelling:  Since we have 3 afternoons of PARCC testing, there will be no spelling this week.

Language Arts: We will continue to wrap up our Traditions unit.  We’ve begun our autobiography project, specifically writing the rough draft this week.  We’ll start typing them the week of 3/16.

We will continue with a new set of WOW words.  The quiz will be Friday.

This week we will continue working in our English textbook, focusing on Adverbs!   

Social Studies: We will continue our Chicago unit this week, specifically focusing on lakes & rivers and the first Chicagoans.  


Science:  We’ll continue chapter 14, Heat, Light, and Sound.  Our lesson 3 graded review will be on Thursday.

Mrs. Klacza's Math Class:  We will conclude Unit 9, Understanding Fractions.  We’ll pretest on Friday for our Unit 9 test on Monday, 3/16.
