Week of 9/30/19 - 10/4/19

Can you believe Monday is the last day of September?  The year feels
like it is already flying by. Please make sure to check your child’s
grades in power school regularly. We are getting close to the halfway
point for Trimester 1!

This week we had a blast celebrating Johnny Appleseed’s birthday.
The applesauce was delicious! 

Coming Up Next Week:

Spelling:  New spelling words are going home on Monday.  
Some activities will require you to initial in the box on the menu.
Some activities will require work done on a sheet of notebook paper.
Three activities are required to be turned in by Friday, 10/11. 
The test will also be on Friday the 11th. 

Reading & Language Arts: We’ll be focusing on main idea and details
this week along with theme vs. main idea.  

Social Science: We’re continuing hemispheres this week. There will be
a test on this information on Friday, 10/4.

Mrs. Klacza's Math Class:  In math, we’ll be finishing up Unit 1,


Addition & Subtraction Patterns.  Our test date is Friday, October 4.  
A pretest/study guide is coming home today. Please make sure your
child completes it and returns it on Thursday, 10/3. We will use this
to review for Friday’s test.

10/14 - Columbus Day (no school)
10/31 - Halloween Parade & Party
11/1 - Day off for conferences

11/4 - Teachers’ Institute (Day off)

Week of 9/23/19 - 9/27/19

Happy Friday everyone! A note is coming home today regarding Johnny
Appleseed’s birthday on Thursday, September 26. Please make sure you
send your child in with a peeled, cored, sliced apple so we can make our
delicious applesauce!  It can be any kind of apple. Do not send it in
before Thursday.  The smells in the third grade wing on Thursday will be amazing!!!! 


Coming Up Next Week:


Spelling:  The Spelling menu homework will be due on or before Friday, 9/27. 
Some activities will require you to initial in the box on the menu.
Some activities will require work done on a sheet of notebook paper.
Three activities are required. The test will also be on Friday the 27th. 
The test will include 15 words from the student's list (teacher's choice)
and 2 sentences, using any of their 2 words. 


Reading & Language Arts: Students will be presenting their “Me Bags” on Monday
and Tuesday.  Please make sure they practice at home. They
will be bringing home a rubric explaining how I will grade them.


Social Science: We’ll be having our continents and oceans quiz on
Wednesday, 9/25. A study guide came home yesterday. Students
have also been researching a continent or ocean and making a
small poster with the facts they found.   We’ll then start hemispheres!  


Mrs. Klacza's Math Class:  In math, we’ll be finishing up Unit 1
Addition & Subtraction Patterns.  The focus this coming week will be
on story problems. Our test date is Friday, October 4.  A pretest/study
guide will come home a few days prior to the test.

Week of 9/16/19 - 9/20/19

Happy Friday everyone!  It’s Friday the 13th, a full moon, AND
a palindrome (9/13/19.) It should be an interesting day!  Wish me
Luck!  I hope everyone has a great, relaxing weekend.

Coming Up Next Week:

Spelling:  The Spelling menu homework will be due on or before Friday, 9/27.

home explaining everything on Monday.


Reading & Language Arts:  Instructions for your child’s “Me Bag” are coming
home today. There will be an extensive writing project and presentation
that goes along with the items they put in their bags. The students are
bringing home a big ziploc bag. (I ran out of brown paper bags.)  Please 
replace it with a brown bag, if you have one at home, before sending in
the 3 items. Please send these items to school before Wednesday.

Social Science: We’ve started continents and oceans.  There will be
plenty of fun activities done for this unit which will lead up to a quiz.  
The tentative date for that quiz is 9/25.


Mrs. Klacza's Math Class:  In math, we’ll be working hard on Unit 1
Addition & Subtraction Patterns.  The focus this coming week will be
on the subtraction table.  There will be a short checkpoint quiz on
Tuesday, 9/17.  We’ll then start learning about length and addition of
length.

Week of 9/9/19 - 9/13/19

Happy Friday everyone!  It was so great to see you all at Curriculum 
Night on Wednesday; we had a great turnout!!  Thank you so much for
coming out and listening to all my bad jokes!  If you’d like me to send

I forgot to mention at Curriculum Night that I am still looking for 
someone to be my “Party Coordinator.”  It’s super easy; I’ll share
emails with you and you don’t even have to attend the parties.  I’m
also looking for one more party volunteer for Halloween (plan & run
games and serve treats) and one more treat person for Valentine’s
Day.  If you can help me out, please email me.  Thank you!


Coming Up Next Week:


Spelling:  We are taking an extra week off - Spelling will start
the week of 9/16.


Reading & Language Arts:  We’ll continue our focus on various reading skills using
fun literature.  This week our books will be Zoom, Pigsty, the 
Lost and Found, and Recess Queen. The skills studied will be inferencing,
Compare & contrast, and character analysis.


Social Science: There will be a short quiz on directions on 9/10.  A study guide
went home yesterday.
