Week of 11/5/18 - 11/9/18

I know I’m very early with my blog this week, but I’ll be flying out to
Charleston this evening for my daughter’s wedding. I’ll be back in the
classroom on Tuesday.

Thank you to the wonderful moms who are planning and carrying out our
Halloween party.  I know it will be amazing!!  Be safe out there when
Trick-or-treating!!





Coming Up Next Week:

Spelling:  A new set of spelling words and a menu will be going home on
Monday.  Homework is due on or before 11/16.

Reading & Language Arts:  We’ll talk about myths this week, particularly
King Midas and his golden touch.  

Please make sure your child is reading!   You should be getting your
November logs shortly.

Social Science: Exciting news!!  We’ll be starting our new Science
curriculum, “Amplify,” on Tuesday.  
Mrs. Klacza's Math Class:  Our Unit 3 assessment will be on 11/9.  The
pretest/study guide will go home on Monday, 11/5. That will be due back
on Thursday, 11/8.

Week of 10/29/18 - 11/2/18



Halloween is almost here!  Please make sure your child brings his/her
costume to school in a bag on Halloween (Tuesday.)   Costumes should be
easy to get on and off. Students will be changing in the classroom (we
separate the boys and the girls.) If you have any questions, send me an email.
Don’t forget about the parade (which will begin at 1:55ish!)  Hopefully,
the weather will cooperate...

It was so nice sitting down with you all this week!  I say this every year and
it still holds true; we have the nicest, most supportive parents in this school
district! Thank you for that!!

I'll be out of school for a few days (Thursday, Friday,Monday) to be at
my daughter's wedding in Charleston, SC. The children
will be in good hands!!





Coming Up Next Week:


Spelling:  The due date for the homework menu will be November 2.
The test will also take place on that day.


Reading & Language Arts:  We’ll finish up writing our persuasive pieces “Buy
My Haunted House!” Students need to use lots of adjectives
in this descriptive piece. They will be drawing their haunted houses
to fit their descriptions this week!


Please make sure your child is reading! October logs are due on or before
Thursday, November 1.


Social Science: There is a Downers Grove history quiz scheduled for
Friday, November 2.  A study guide is going home today.  Students
should use their packets to help them study.
Mrs. Klacza's Math Class: This week we’ll continue to explore rounding to
the nearest 10 and 100.  We’ll then get into algorithm for addition and
subtraction (stack em up!!)  Our Unit 3 assessment will be on 11/9.  The
pretest/study guide will go home on Monday, 11/5.

Week of 10/22/18 - 10/26/18



October is flying by and before you know it, Halloween will be here!  Parents
who’ve signed up (at Open House) have been notified about the upcoming party
on the 31st.  I’m confident the preparations are going well. Please make sure
your child brings his/her costume to school in a bag on Halloween.  No weapons
please! Costumes should be easy to get on and off. Students will be changing
in the classroom (we separate the boys and the girls.) If you have any questions,

Conferences for home room students’ parents will be held this coming Monday -
Wednesday.  I look forward to sitting down with all of you and having a great
conversation about your awesome children!

Our Downers Grove field trip will take place on Thursday. We will visit the
historical museum and then take a bus tour which includes the historical sites.
Lunch will be at Giordano’s pizza downtown and there will be time for a visit
to McCollum Park as well.  Please make sure your child is dressed for the weather!!  We will be outdoors a good
amount of the time.

Social Science: We are continuing our Downers Grove unit and learned all about
Israel Blodgett and his family. We also learned about the Underground Railroad
and how Downers Grove played a part.  Ask your child about it! Our field trip
will be on Thursday, October 25.
Mrs. Klacza's Math Class: We’ll only have 3 days of math next week due
to Friday’s day off and two classes going on a field trip on Thursday.  We’ll
continue with subtraction strategies and using expanded form. A short
checkpoint quiz will occur on Tuesday, 10/23. It will cover 3-digit addition
and subtraction.

Week of 10/22/18 - 10/26/18



Thank you to my homeroom parents for signing up for a conference. I’ll be

Spelling:  The spelling homework (Menu) is due on or before Friday, 10/19.
The test will also be on that day.


Reading & Language Arts:   This week, we’ll continue working on using better
descriptive language when writing. We do this by using adjectives as much as
possible.  We’ll then begin writing our persuasive writing pieces “Buy My Haunted
House!”


Please make sure your child is reading! October logs are due on or before November 1.


Social Science: We started our Downers Grove unit and learned all about Pierce
Downer and his family. Ask your child about it! Our field trip will be on Thursday,
October 25.
Mrs. Klacza's Math Class: We continue Unit 3 next week, specifically
covering rounding of numbers to the nearest 10 and the nearest 100 and addition
and subtraction with multi-digit numbers. There will be a checkpoint quiz on
Monday covering rounding and addition of multi-digit numbers.

Week of 10/8/18 - 10/12/18

Congrats to my students for earning their very first Marble Party, which
is today!!  Students earn marbles by showing character and doing what’s right
as a group throughout the day.  We will be watching a movie, wearing
PJs and bringing our favorite stuffed toys in to celebrate! I am also
sharing a special sweet treat!


We are halfway through the 1st trimester of third grade!  Can you believe it?
Hopefully, grades are being monitored online.  If you are having problems doing so,
please call the office. We will be having our first monthly Pride awards
presentation later today.  Have a wonderful Columbus Day weekend!
I’m hoping the weather will cooperate!

third homework menu.  They are due on or before 10/19.


Reading & Language Arts:   This week, we’ll be working on using better descriptive
language when writing,character traits,theme,and cause and effect. These are all
very important reading and writing skills.  


Please make sure your child is reading! October logs are due by November 1.


Social Science: We start our Downers Grove unit next week!  We’ll begin
with the history of DG starting with our founder, Pierce Downers.  This
unit leads to a really fun field trip at the end of this month.
Mrs. Klacza's Math Class: We continue Unit 3 next week, specifically
covering rounding of numbers to the nearest 10 and the nearest 100.
