Week of 1/7/18 - 1/11/18

We have had such a fun week!  The trip to see Elf was so much fun!   
Being in the historic Tivoli Theater is always such a great experience!
We have such a wonderful PTO!! Bowling will be a lot of fun, too. The
students were so well behaved!  I've noticed that supplies are starting to
dwindle.  Please ask your child what he/she needs to replenish as we start
a new year together. Thank you! I hope you all have a joyous and healthy
holiday. Enjoy your families and keep them close. See you all in 2019!!


Coming Up Next Week:


Spelling: New spelling words and activities will be coming home on Monday, 1/7.
The homework will be due on or before 1/18.  The test will also be on that
day.


Reading & Language Arts:  We’ll be starting a new book called Throw Your
Tooth from the Roof. There will be a series of activities to go along with
that story.  We’ll also be writing our New Year’s Resolutions.


December reading logs will be due before or on Monday, 1/7.  A January
Log will be coming home on that day as well.  Feel free to fill in the days
before the 7th.


Social Science: We will continue our new Science curriculum, “Amplify.”
Mrs. Klacza's Math Class:  Unit 4 will begin on January 7.  It focuses
on measurement and fractions.  We’ll also be continuing our multiplication
facts tests. There will be a x10 quiz on Wednesday, 1/9.

Week of 12/17/18 - 12/21/18

Even though our weather has not been typical for Winter, here are some good
winter weather rules for PV: A quick note about recess: Children NEED boots
to be in snow- snow pants are not required, but kids should know that if they
get their clothes wet, they will be wet for the afternoon.... Snow/ice is not to
be thrown for any reason at all.  They may roll it, or build with it, but not launch
it, etc. We will have snow again; let ‘s be prepared!

We are approaching our final week before winter break.  Lots of fun activities are in store for our Panthers! Read below and find out!!



Coming Up Next Week:


Spelling: The final menu assignments will be due on or before THURSDAY, 12/20.
The test will also be on THURSDAY, 12/20. Please notice this is a change!!


Reading & Language Arts:  We’ll be finishing up The Night Before Christmas
and other various holiday-themed activities.


December reading logs will be due before or on Monday, 1/7.


Social Science: We will continue our new Science curriculum, “Amplify.”  
Mrs. Klacza's Math Class:  Unit 2 will end this week. The test date for
this unit will be Wednesday, 12/19.  Students have Study Guides (pre-tests)
And we will go over them on Monday, 12/17. There will be no math on Tuesday
or Friday.

Important Dates:  
12/18 - PV goes to the Tivoli to see Elf (morning)  
Choir/band concert (afternoon)
12/21 - Third grade goes bowling (morning)

Week of 12/10/18 - 12/14/18

We are getting closer and closer to winter break, but we’re not there yet!  We have a

Spelling: New spelling words are coming home on Monday.  The final menu
assignments will be due on or before THURSDAY, 12/20.  The test will also

We’ll also start reading The Keeping Quilt and The Night Before Christmas.

Social Science: We will continue our new Science curriculum, “Amplify.”  We’ll

Mrs. Klacza's Math Class:  Unit 2 continues with multiplication strategies, data,
and surveys. The test date for this unit will be Wednesday, 12/19.  
Study Guides (pre-tests) will be coming home next Wednesday to be
completed and brought back to school on Monday, 12/17.  Our x5 test
will be on Wednesday. Practice!!!

Week of 12/3/18 - 12/7/18

Welcome to December!  The weather has already been feeling winter-likeso please remember to have your child dress appropriately for the weather;we do try to go outside for recess.


Coming Up Next Week:


Spelling: Menu homework is due on or before Friday, 12/7.  The test will also
be on that day.


Reading & Language Arts:  This week our focus will be on character traits.
We will determine the traits of characters in stories and then brainstorm
3 character traits for ourselves, using evidence.  We’ll also be writing our
snowglobe stories.


Please make sure your child is reading!   You should be filling in your
November log.  They will be due on or before 12/3.  A new log for December
will be going home next week.


Social Science: We will continue our new Science curriculum, “Amplify.”  We’ll
be making magnet observations this coming week.
Mrs. Klacza's Math Class:  Unit 2 continues with multiplication strategies.
There will be a graded “work sample” on Thursday.

Weeks of 11/19/18 & 11/26/18










Today is the end of Trimester 1. What a wonderful first one-third of the
year we’ve had!!  Grades will be finalized soon. I hope you have a wonderful
Thanksgiving break with your families.  This blog will include information for
the two days next week and also the following week. Happy Thanksgiving!!

Coming Up Next Week:

Spelling: New sorts will be going home on Monday, 11/26 (no spelling next week.)
 The due date is 12/7. The test will also occur that day.



Reading & Language Arts:
 We’ll be having fun with Readers’ Theater for the next
week and a half.  Students will practice and perform with their reading groups.
The stories are all myths.  It should be fun!


Please make sure your child is reading!   You should be filling in your
November log.  They will be due on or before 12/1.


Social Science: We will continue our new Science curriculum, “Amplify.”
The week of 11/26 we’ll be observing forces in chain reactions.  
Mrs. Klacza's Math Class:  Unit 2 continues with multiplication strategies. 
There will be a short checkpoint quiz on 11/27 on multiplication.

Week of 11/12/18 - 11/16/19

Tomorrow is Veterans’ Day and we had a wonderful assembly honoring
our own veterans (those who have a connection to our Panthers.)  There
weren’t a lot of adult dry eyes in the house! If you are a veteran, thank you!
Please ask your child about this wonderful assembly!
We have one more week to go in Trimester 1.  Please make sure you keep
an eye on your child’s grades.







Coming Up Next Week:


Spelling: Homework is due on or before 11/16. The test will also occur
on that day.


Reading & Language Arts:  We’ll talk about myths this week, particularly
Pandora’s Box.

We will also be using our "disguised turkeys" which are due on Monday
to write a persuasive paragraph convincing the farmer not to eat him
for Thanksgiving.


Please make sure your child is reading!   You should be filling in your
November log.


Social Science: We started our new Science curriculum, “Amplify,”
this week.  We learned about the floating train and force.  
Mrs. Klacza's Math Class:  We will take a step back and start Unit 2
On Tuesday, Introduction to Multiplication.

Week of 11/5/18 - 11/9/18

I know I’m very early with my blog this week, but I’ll be flying out to
Charleston this evening for my daughter’s wedding. I’ll be back in the
classroom on Tuesday.

Thank you to the wonderful moms who are planning and carrying out our
Halloween party.  I know it will be amazing!!  Be safe out there when
Trick-or-treating!!

Spelling:  A new set of spelling words and a menu will be going home on
Monday.  Homework is due on or before 11/16.

Reading & Language Arts:  We’ll talk about myths this week, particularly
King Midas and his golden touch.  

Please make sure your child is reading!   You should be getting your
November logs shortly.

Social Science: Exciting news!!  We’ll be starting our new Science
curriculum, “Amplify,” on Tuesday.  
Mrs. Klacza's Math Class:  Our Unit 3 assessment will be on 11/9.  The
pretest/study guide will go home on Monday, 11/5. That will be due back
on Thursday, 11/8.

Week of 10/29/18 - 11/2/18



Halloween is almost here!  Please make sure your child brings his/her
costume to school in a bag on Halloween (Tuesday.)   Costumes should be
easy to get on and off. Students will be changing in the classroom (we
separate the boys and the girls.) If you have any questions, send me an email.
Don’t forget about the parade (which will begin at 1:55ish!)  Hopefully,
the weather will cooperate...

It was so nice sitting down with you all this week!  I say this every year and
it still holds true; we have the nicest, most supportive parents in this school
district! Thank you for that!!

I'll be out of school for a few days (Thursday, Friday,Monday) to be at
my daughter's wedding in Charleston, SC. The children
will be in good hands!!





Coming Up Next Week:


Spelling:  The due date for the homework menu will be November 2.
The test will also take place on that day.


Reading & Language Arts:  We’ll finish up writing our persuasive pieces “Buy
My Haunted House!” Students need to use lots of adjectives
in this descriptive piece. They will be drawing their haunted houses
to fit their descriptions this week!


Please make sure your child is reading! October logs are due on or before
Thursday, November 1.


Social Science: There is a Downers Grove history quiz scheduled for
Friday, November 2.  A study guide is going home today.  Students
should use their packets to help them study.
Mrs. Klacza's Math Class: This week we’ll continue to explore rounding to
the nearest 10 and 100.  We’ll then get into algorithm for addition and
subtraction (stack em up!!)  Our Unit 3 assessment will be on 11/9.  The
pretest/study guide will go home on Monday, 11/5.
