Week of 2/3/14 - 2/7/14

Happy Groundhog Day and Super Bowl Sunday! I'll be cheering for the Seahawks since my son and his future wife are now residents of Seattle!!
Congratulations to Simona and Luke who won our class Spelling Bee!   
We have an early dismissal day on Tuesday.   Also, please be aware of all the changes to our work load (see schedule below) that occurred because of our extreme weather days.

Coming up next week:
Spelling: Lesson 17.   Pretest on Monday, cursive due on Tuesday.   Challenge activities OR ABC order due on Thursday.   Test Friday for all those using the regular words.   No test for “challenge” words.  (This is the lesson we were supposed to do last week.)


English:  There will be a short quiz on Monday covering Lessons 1-4 on Adjectives.  We’ll then move on to Lessons 5 & 6, focusing on Adverbs.  The quiz on Adverbs will take place on 2/12.  The final chapter test will occur on 2/18.


Reading:  This week, we will finish our basal story, Seal Surfer.  There will be a vocabulary quiz on Monday.  We’ll continue our Word of the Day.  We’ll also go a bit “cross-curricular” and create our immigration scrapbooks this week.  It involves writing and being very creative!




Social Studies:  We will finish Chapter 3, “People Move From Place to Place.”  There will be a test on the chapter on Tuesday.  We’ll review on Monday.   This will not be open book.  


Science:   We are taking a science break this week.


Mrs. Klacza's Math Class:  Our chapter 7 test will be on Monday. We’ll then start chapter 8 which covers multiplication and division from 6 through 12.   Please make sure your child is practicing his/her math facts at home!   These are the hard ones!!

Week of 1/27/14 - 1/31/14

What a wonderful week of Culture Day presentations!   I’m so impressed with the work the children did; they all seem so proud of their heritage!   
Our classroom spelling bee will take place on Monday.  The top 2 winners will advance to the 3rd grade bee held on Thursday.
Stay warm this weekend AND next week!

Week of 1/20/14 - 1/24/14

We made it through an entire 5 day week and MAP testing!   Our students did a wonderful job!   Don’t forget, Monday is a day off in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King’s birthday.   Enjoy the long weekend and stay warm!!



Coming up next week:
Spelling: Lesson 16.   Pretest on Tuesday, cursive due on Wednesday.   Challenge activities OR ABC order due on Friday.   Test Friday for all those using the regular words.   No test for “challenge” words.

English:  We will finish our unit on prefixes/suffixes and then start unit 4 in our English textbooks on Adjectives and Adverbs.   Can’t wait to watch our new Schoolhouse Rock videos!!

Reading:  This week,  before starting our next story in the basal, we will go cross-curricular!  The students will begin writing their immigration booklets and present their culture day projects.  We are also visiting the lab to find out how to utilize google docs.  This is a wonderful tool for all our future typing of reports and stories.  Students can easily work on them at home, no flash drives needed!

Social Studies:  We will continue Chapter 3, “People Move From Place to Place.”  Culture Day presentations will take place on 1/22 and 1/23.  If you are sending in food, we’ll make sure your child goes on Wednesday, unless the food can hold until Thursday.  

Science:   We’ll continue Chapter 12 on Energy.  A graded review (open book/notes) for lesson 3 will take place on Friday.  The test is planned for 1/28.  

Mrs. Klacza's Math Class:  We’ll continue Chapter 7 - more multiplication & division, focusing on 3s and 4s.  A quiz will take place on 1/27, covering Lessons 1-5.

Week of 1/13/14 - 1/17/14

Happy New Year!   Hard to believe another year has passed... Here's to a healthy, happy, prosperous 2014 for all of us here at Prairieview!  
I hope you all enjoyed spending time with your family and friends.  Due to the snow days, our MAP tests will occur this coming week.  See the schedule below for specific dates.

English:  We will work on prefixes/suffixes.

Reading:  This week we will continue the story from our basals, The Night of the Pufflings.  On Monday, there will be a vocabulary test and on Tuesday an open book/notes comprehension test.  We will also study facts & opinions.  

Social Studies:  We will continue Chapter 3, “People Move From Place to Place.”  The Culture Day planning sheet is due Monday. Culture Day is 1/22.   Also, a graded review for lesson 3 will take place on Friday.  

Science:   We’ll continue Chapter 12 on Energy.  Our first graded review will be on Monday.   Our lesson 2 review will be on Thursday.

Mrs. Klacza's Math Class:  The Chapter 6 test on multiplication and division is Wednesday.  We’ll then begin Chapter 7 - more multiplication & division!!
