Week of 4/1/19 - 4/5/19

After school today we begin Spring Break!   Have a wonderful, relaxing
break and be safe!  The week we return to school starts our
IAR testing.  Chromebooks will need to be fully charged every night
and earphones should be brought to school daily!  A mouse is also an
excellent tool for IAR tests.  If your child does not have headphones
or a mouse, Spring Break week might be a good time to buy them!

We had a wonderful visit to the Chicago History Museum yesterday!  I
had never been there and truly enjoyed it. I hope your child did, too!

Coming Up Next Week:

Spelling: We will get a new word list and menu. The menu is #4 so it is
a bit different than the others. The menu homework will be due on or
before 4/12.

Reading & Language Arts:  I’m excited to share that we will be starting
our next unit which includes reading The One and Only Ivan.  This is my
very favorite book of the third grade curriculum and I think all the students
will love it!  Please feel free to read it, too, so you may talk to your child
about it. It’s a very quick read!

The March reading logs will be due on or before April 2 (Tuesday.)

Social Science: We will continue our Chicago unit this week.  Our focus will
be on the railways and the waterways. Our first quiz (on only this section
of our Eyewitness Chicago packet) will be on Thursday, 4/4.  A study guide
will go home on Tuesday, 4/2.

Mrs. Klacza's Math Class: We’ll continue Unit 6, Geometry, when we return.
We’ll also be taking the IAR Math tests (3 total.)

Important Dates:
3/22 - End of day begins Spring Break!
4/1 - Welcome back!
Week of 4/1 and 4/8 - IAR Testing (Math & ELA)
4/18 - Early Dismissal

Have a great Spring Break!  May it be safe and fun!!

Happy St. Patrick’s Day!  "May the road rise up to meet you and the wind
be always at your back…" Enjoy your weekend!

We are coming up to the final week before Spring Break. We are visiting the
Chicago History Museum on Thursday!! We will learn all about our fair city,
especially the Great Chicago Fire and the Columbian Exposition. Please make
sure your child brings a totally disposable lunch on that day. We are so lucky
to be able to see our beautiful city and take in the History Museum for free!

Coming Up Next Week:

Spelling: There will be a quiz on prefixes and suffixes on Wednesday.  We’ll
review on Tuesday.

Reading & Language Arts:  We will continue our focus on a reading skill that
is really important, Main Idea & Details.  Prefixes & suffixes will also be
explored in more depth.

Social Science: We will continue our Chicago unit this week.  Our focus will
be on early history and lakes & rivers.

Mrs. Klacza's Math Class:  Since two days are set aside for field trips, there
will only be 3 days of math this week.  We’ll simply pretest for Unit 6 on
Monday.  We’ll also take a common assessment so the students can “show what
they know!”   We’ll continue Unit 6, Geometry, after Spring Break.

Important Dates:
3/21 - Field trip to the Chicago History Museum
3/22 - End of day begins Spring Break!
4/1 - Welcome back!
4/18 - Early Dismissal

Culture presentations have been wonderful so far!  I am learning so much
about our world. It’s great to see the students so excited to share
the country they connect with as a family!

We had our final Junior Achievement presentation on Tuesday. A big thank
you goes out to Mr. Dan Blocker for giving up his valuable time to educate
our third graders!

Don’t forget to “Spring Forward” this weekend! Hopefully we’ll be feeling
more Spring-like weather real soon!!

and will focus on prefixes and suffixes!  Students have received a packet that

Monday, March 11. We will then focus on a reading skill that is really
