Week of 2/27/12 - 3/2/12



We enter the month of March this week! It's coming in like a lion; will it go out like a lamb?


This is our last week of T.G.F.D.!! It would be nice if your child would like to write a thank you note or card to Deputy Seward!

SAVE THE DATE: Tuesday, April 10th is our Too Good For Drugs Graduation at 8:15 a.m. in our gym. Parents are invited to attend!

Field trip slips for Naper Settlement will be given to your child on Monday. The permission slip and money is due by the end of the week.

Coming up this week:


Spelling: Lesson 23 – Pretest Monday, practice sheet due Tuesday. Homework due Thursday and test on Friday.

English: We will continue our unit on adjectives this week, specifically, using good/bad and proper adjectives. Tentative test date is 3/8. We will also start our expository writing unit this week.


Reading: The students seem to be enjoying their novels! We are reviewing all the important reading skills we've covered so far this trimester. Our literature circles have been meeting daily and every day the children get better at it!


Social Studies: Our chapter 9 test is Tuesday. We will not start chapter 10 until next week.



Science: We'll continue studying the atmosphere and water cycle segments of our weather chapter this week. Wednesday will be a quick study day.




Mrs. Klacza's Math Class: There will be a quiz on lessons 1-4 on Monday. We will then quickly move into chapter 12, fractions. We will be studying equivalent fractions this week.

Week of 2/20/12 - 2/24/12

Happy President's Day, everyone. Enjoy the long weekend! Thank you to all the moms who contributed to our Valentine's Day party. We had a wonderful time and your help was greatly appreciated. Also, thank you to Jack P's dad and David's mom for coming along to Argonne for our scientific field trip. A good time was had by all!!




Coming up this week:




Spelling: Lesson 22 – Pretest Tuesday, practice sheet due Wednesday. Homework due Thursday and test on Friday.




English: We will continue our unit on Adjectives this week.






Reading: The students will be enjoying several different novels this week as we review all the important reading skills we've covered so far this trimester. We will start literature circles with various historical fiction novels all taking place during the American Revolution. Students will find themselves holding down different jobs each day, from “passage picker” to “literary luminary!”





Social Studies: This week we will finish chapter 9. The Revolutionary War has ended, but what's next for the new United States? We'll find out when we get to chapter 10! Our test for ch. 9 will be Monday, 2/27.




Science: We'll continue studying the atmosphere and water cycle segments of our weather chapter this week.




Mrs. Klacza's Math Class: We will focus on chapter 11 which covers least common multiples, greatest common factors, and divisibility rules. After we finish lessons 1-4, there will be a quiz on Monday, 2/27.

Week of 2/13/12 - 2/17/12


Valentine's Day is Tuesday! A class list went home for valentines. Please make sure your child gives a valentine to everyone.


ARGONNE Field Trip! We are leaving Prairieview at 9:00 and returning about 1:30.Your child needs to bring their lunch and a beverage. Students must wear pants, long sleeve shirts, and shoes that are closed which means no sandals. This will be an exciting educational experience!!!

Coming up this week:


Spelling: Lesson 21 – Pretest Monday, practice sheet due Tuesday. Homework due Thursday and test on Friday.



English: We will begin our unit on Adjectives this week.



Reading: The students will be enjoying several different novels in the next few weeks as we review all the important reading skills we've covered so far this trimester. This week we will start Sign of the Beaver. The following week, the students will start literature circles with various historical fiction novels all taking place during the American Revolution.



Social Studies: We have begun chapter 9, “Winning the Revolution.” The Declaration of Independence has been signed! This week we'll cover lesson 2, “Patriots at War.”



Science: Our weather unit starts this week as we read and take notes on lesson 1. We'll have our quick study on Friday.


Mrs. Klacza's Math Class: We will finish chapter 4 with a review day on Monday and a test on Tuesday. Due to Argonne field trips, we won't have math on Wednesday so we'll end the week with a target test and maybe a visit to the computer lab.

Week of 2/6/12 - 2/10/12



Valentine's Day is quickly approaching. A class list went home for valentines. Please make sure your child gives a valentine to everyone.


We are about half-way through TGFD and what a wonderful presenter we have in Deputy Seward! Has your child told you any of his jokes?

Coming up this week:


Spelling: Lesson 20 – Pretest Monday, practice sheet due Tuesday. Homework due Thursday and test on Friday.


English: We are continuing our “Me Front Page” activity which use the 7 traits of writing. We will also begin our chapter on adjectives this week.


Reading: We will be continuing to identify cause and effect relationships using a variety of instructional materials. We have read Katie's Trunk, which is about a loyalist family during the Revolutionary War. An extended response will be written this week using that story.



Social Studies: The students have all week to complete the Webquest activity on the American Revolution. It is due on Friday. We will also be starting chapter 9, “Winning the Revolution.”



Science: Our chapter 15, Forms of Energy, test will be on Monday. We'll then do a brief writing/drawing activity designing a car using an alternative energy source. Our next chapter on weather will start at the end of the week.



Mrs. Klacza's Math Class: We continue our algebra chapter (4) with solving equations, functions, and inequalities. A short quiz will be at the end of the week on lessons 4-8. A test will follow the week of 2/13.
