Week of 5/2/16 - 5/6/16

It was great seeing you all at our Spring Open House yesterday!   The children are so excited about showing off their work and their classroom, aren’t they?   We’re in the final stretch of the school year!! 
MAPs testing will take place next week on Thursday and Friday.  As with the PARCC exams, students should get a good night’s sleep and eat healthy meals particularly on those days.
Coming up next week:
Spelling:   New word sorts will be going home on Monday, along with a homework menu.  Please make sure your child completes 2 activities from each column!  The final product will be due on or before 5/13.  Test will be on that day also.

Reading & Language Arts:  We’re  reading and discussing a short story in our reading textbook entitled “Two Days in May.”  We’ll also be starting our friendly letter lessons, which leads into the writing of our 2nd grade pen pal letters.  The kids are so excited!!

We’re continuing using RAZ kids in class in lieu of book reports.  Students need to read stories online and answer comprehension questions following each story.

April Reading Logs are due on Monday!!!!  The May log will go home on Monday.  

Social Studies:  On Hiatus!

Science:   We will start our unit on Ecosystems.  There will be a graded review on the first lesson on Thursday.  Books and notes are allowed during the quiz.



Mrs. Klacza's Math Class:  This week we will continue Unit 7 on Multiplication, focusing on arrays and 2 digit multiplication problems. Our next multiplication timed test will be on the 11s.  A practice sheet will go home on Monday; test will be on Friday.

Week of 4/25/16 - 4/29/16

PARCC exams are done!!   I’m very proud of both my homeroom and math students for doing such a great job these last couple of weeks.  
Thursday, April 28, is our annual PV Open House & Book Fair.  It will run from 6:30-8:00.  Please try to come in and see all the wonderful projects your child has been working on this year.  I look forward to seeing you all!

Reading & Language Arts:  We’re continuing our third and final reading unit:”Stand Up for What You Believe In!”   We’re finishing up  The One and Only Ivan.  We’ll also be reading a short story in our reading textbook entitled “Two Days in May.”

Mrs. Klacza's Math Class:  This week we will continue Unit 7 on Multiplication, focusing on arrays and 2 digit multiplication problems.  There will be a short multiplication and division checkpoint quiz on Tuesday.  On Monday, students will receive their 9s practice page; the x9 test will be on Friday, 4/29.

Week of 4/18/16 - 4/22/16

Week one of PARCC is done!!   We completed the ELA portion; now on to Math for week two.  We will be taking this week’s exams with our math classes.  A gentle reminder to please make sure your child gets a good night’s sleep, eats a healthy breakfast, and brings a healthy snack to school.  
Our students will be needing colored pencils or crayons this coming week for some cool projects.  Many students do not have them anymore.  If your child needs them, can you check and see if you have some at home and send them in?  Thanks!
Coming up next week:
Spelling:   We have a spelling test on Monday (typically should be today, but because of PARCC, I postponed it.)
A new “sort” is coming home on Monday. Six spelling activities (2 from each column)  need to be completed by Friday, 4/29.  The test will be on the same day.

Week of 4/11/16 - 4/15/16

What a weird weather week this has been!  Is it Spring yet?  Hopefully, the coming week will be better!! Next week starts our PARCC testing.  We’ll be testing ELA on Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday.  The following week Math will be tested.  Please make sure your child gets a good night’s sleep, a healthy breakfast, and a good snack! Most importantly: Chromebooks needs to be fully charged every night and earbuds/earphones should be brought to school daily!
Coming up next week:
Spelling:   Six spelling activities (2 from each column)  need to be completed by Friday, 4/15. I am changing the date of the test to Monday, 4/18 due to PARCC testing.  


Reading & Language Arts:  We’re continuing our third and final reading unit:”Stand Up for what You Believe In!”   We’re enjoying The One and Only Ivan.  The story is wonderful; ask your child to summarize it for you!
