Week of 6/1/15 - 6/5/15

We are entering our final full week of 3rd grade!   There are lots of exciting things coming up like our pen pal visit, bowling, a magic show, a pizza treat, etc.  All the dates are listed below.  
No lunch is necessary on Tuesday.  Also, Thursday afternoon is our bowling field trip and the children may bring money for a food item.  $5 is more than enough!   If your child is planning on buying food, a light lunch is in order for that day.

Coming up this week:
Spelling:   Nada!   We are done :)

Language Arts: We will continue and end our unit “Tales as Old as Time.”  The focus of the next few weeks will be  myths and we’ll also be presenting our  biography posters.  

Cursive workbooks must be completed and turned in by Friday, May 29.   

Reading Logs for May are due by Tuesday.

Social Studies:  We will finish up Chapter 9 from our text book which discusses earning, spending, and saving money.  The final test will be this Monday, June 1.

Science:   We will continue “Getting Ready for Science.”  Our lesson 3 review will take place on Tuesday, June 2.  There will not be a formal test on this unit.

Mrs. Klacza's Math Class:  We’re concluding Unit 16 on all types of data and graphs.  Our “Quest” on this unit will be on Wednesday, June 3.  It looks like our last day of math will be on 6/4.  The students have earned a marble party so I will be bringing in a treat that day.  If anyone else would like to send something in on Thursday, that would be lovely.   What a great year we’ve had in math class!!

Week of 5/25/15 - 5/29/15

Happy Memorial Day weekend everyone!  Enjoy this time with your families and let’s hope the weather cooperates with all of our plans!  
This Tuesday I’m holding the auction party, “won” by Layla’s family.  We’ll be enjoying pizza and an ice cream dessert at lunch time, so no lunches are necessary on Tuesday.  If each student could bring a drink, that would be great.  Layla picks the movie we will watch!!   
More good news…   Our class has won the box tops celebration in the third grade!  WOOOHOOOO!!   I’ll pass on more information when I know it.    
Coming up this week:
Spelling:  First names of our students.   Please check your child’s assignment notebook daily for homework.  Pretest on Monday, Test Friday.

Language Arts: We will continue our unit “Tales as Old as Time.”  The focus of the next few weeks will be  myths and we’ll also be writing biographies.  

Cursive workbooks must be completed and turned in by Friday, May 29.   Please note, many pages have been crossed off.

Social Studies:  We will finish up Chapter 9 from our text book which discusses earning, spending, and saving money!  The third quiz on lesson 3 will be on Wednesday.  Of course it’s open book/notes.  The final test on this unit will be Monday, June 1.

Science:   We will continue “Getting Ready for Science.”  Our lesson 3 review will take place on Tuesday, June 2.  There will not be a formal test on this unit.

Mrs. Klacza's Math Class:  We’re beginning Unit 16 on all types of data and graphs.  Our test on this unit will be on Wednesday, June 3.  It looks like our last day of math will be on 6/4.

Week of 5/18/15 - 5/22/15

We have three full weeks of school left.  Let’s make it great!!   Please make sure you are checking your child’s grades on line.  I’ve been adding items daily.

Coming up this week:
Spelling:  Lesson 29.   Please check your child’s assignment notebook daily for homework.  Pretest on Monday, Test Friday.


Language Arts: We will continue our unit “Tales as Old as Time.”  The focus of the next few weeks will be  myths.  


We will continue our WOW words this week.   The students will learn a new word every day, Monday-Thursday.   The quiz will be on Friday.   This will be the last week for WOW!!!!

There will be a test on friendly letter writing on Monday. Students should study from the study guide and also there is a multitude of information in their English pockets.


Social Studies:  We will continue Chapter 9 from our text book which discusses earning, spending, and saving money!  The second quiz on lesson 2 will be on Wednesday.  Of course it’s open book/notes.  


We’ll have a volunteer from Junior Achievement here this week.  I’m looking forward to it!


Science:   We will continue “Getting Ready for Science.”  Our lesson 2 review will take place on Thursday.


Mrs. Klacza's Math Class:  We’re beginning Unit 15 this week on liquid volume and mass.  It’s very short so I’m foreseeing a quiz either Friday or the following Tuesday.

Week of 5/11/15 - 5/15/15

HAPPY MOTHERS' DAY to all the Moms!!

My youngest daughter will be graduating college tomorrow!   Where has the time gone?  I feel the same way about the school year…   
We conquered PARCC!!   My students handled the tests beautifully.  Now we can relax and enjoy the rest of the school year, which is only a bit longer than 4 weeks!!   There’s so much to look forward to!!!

Language Arts: We will continue our unit “Tales as Old as Time.”  The focus of the next several weeks will be fables and myths.  We will be getting back to The Tortoise & The Hare.


We will continue our WOW words this week.   The students will learn a new word every day, Monday-Thursday.   The quiz will be on Friday.


We will be writing our 2nd grade pen pal letters this week!   The kiddos are so excited!!   If you have any fun stickers lying around your house, please send them in.   We like to send our pen pals a little “gift” in their letters.   


Social Studies:  We will start Chapter 9 from our text book which discusses earning, spending, and saving money!  The first quiz on lesson 1 will be Thursday.


Science:   We will continue “Getting Ready for Science.”  Our lesson 1 review will take place on Tuesday.


Mrs. Klacza's Math Class:  We’ve begun Unit 14 on area.   Keep an eye on your child’s assignment notebook; we will zip along at a faster pace than usual.

Week of 5/4/15 - 5/8/15

Thank you to all the families that came out for our spring Open House & Book Fair.  We had a wonderful turnout!!   I hope you enjoyed visiting room 105 as much as we enjoyed showing it off.  
The second round of PARCC testing will be next week, Monday through Wednesday.  There will only be 1 reading test and 2 math tests.  As with any standardized testing, please make sure your child is well rested and eats healthy!!   
Coming up this week:
Spelling: Since we are PARCC testing, we will be taking a break from spelling this week.


Language Arts: We will continue our unit “Tales as Old as Time.”  The focus of the next several weeks will be fables and myths.  


We will continue our WOW words this week.   The students will learn a new word every day, Monday-Thursday.   The quiz will be on Friday.


Social Studies:  Our third and final test on our Chicago unit will be Tuesday.  Study guides are allowed.  We’ll then start Chapter 9 from our text book which discusses earning, spending, and saving money!


Science:   We will take a step backwards and study the very first chapter in our textbooks, “Getting Ready for Science.”  I feel it’s important to study science inquiry skills and the scientific method before heading off to 4th grade.  We won’t start graded reviews this week.


Mrs. Klacza's Math Class:  We’ll wrap up our perimeter unit this week.  Our quiz will be on Wednesday.  Unit 14 is on area and will begin on Thursday.
