Week of 11/4/19 - 11/8/19

Thank you for joining me for a conference this week!  It was 
wonderful sitting down with you all and discussing your wonderful
children.  


Thank you, also,  to the wonderful moms who are planning and carrying 
out our Halloween party later today.  I know it will be amazing! Be safe
out there when trick-or-treating!


Coming Up Next Week:


Spelling:  Menu homework will be due on or before 11/8. The test will 
also happen on that day.


Reading & Language Arts:  We’ll be starting our Myths lesson; this week
we’ll focus on King Midas.


November reading logs will be going home today.  They are due back 
on or before December 1.


Social Science: Our Downers Grove test will be on Wednesday, 11/6. 
A study guide has gone home!!


Mrs. Klacza's Math Class: This week our focus will be on Algorithms
for addition and subtraction (Stacking.)  A pretest (study guide) will be
coming home on Tuesday.  The Unit 3 final test will be on Wednesday, 
11/13.

Week of 10/28/19 - 11/1/19

Halloween is almost here!  Please make sure your child brings his/her
costume to school in a bag on Halloween (Thursday.)   Costumes should be
easy to get on and off. Students will be changing in the classroom (we separate
the boys and the girls.) If you have any questions, send me an email.


Don’t forget about the parade (which will begin at 1:55ish.) 
Hopefully the weather will cooperate!

Coming Up Next Week:


Spelling:  A new set of words will be coming home on Monday with a
pink menu. That homework will be due on or before 11/8.


Reading & Language Arts:  We’ll continue our writing this coming week!
Our big writing project,“Buy My Haunted House” has been assigned and
discussed.  Students will be using adjectives, similes, and all kinds
of descriptive words.


October reading logs are due by October 31.


Social Science: We are finishing up our Downers Grove unit.  Our test
Will be on 11/6.  A study guide will go home on 10/29.


Mrs. Klacza's Math Class: We are moving along in Unit 3. We’ll
continue to focus on multi-digit addition and subtraction.  There will be
a short quiz on Monday going over rounding to the nearest 10 and 100,
word problems with estimating/rounding AND finding exact answers, and
adding and subtracting using “stack em up.”

Week of 10/21/19 - 10/25/19


Thank you to all the parents who signed up for a conference! I got a
100% of you to sign up! That is a record for me! Have a great weekend.


Coming Up Next Week:


Spelling:  Menu homework is due on or before Friday, October 25.
The test will also take place that day.  I introduced the students to
“Pyramid words” which they may do on notebook paper and use as
one of their tasks.


Reading & Language Arts:  We’ll be doing a lot of writing this coming week!
Students will be describing a mystery object of their choice and also 
having some fun with similes.  This all leads to our big writing project,
“Buy My Haunted House.” Students will be using adjectives and all kinds
of descriptive words.


October reading logs are due by November 1.


Social Science: We are studying Downers Grove with our focus on
Israel Blodgett and his family, Prince Pond, the Tivoli Theater
and the Underground Railroad. 


Mrs. Klacza's Math Class: We are moving along in Unit 3. We’ll keep
our focus on strategies for subtraction.

Week of 10/14/19 - 10/18/19

We are halfway through the 1st trimester of third grade!  Can you believe it?
Hopefully, grades are being monitored online.  If you are having problems doing so,please call the office. Have a wonderful Columbus Day weekend! I’m hoping the weather will cooperate but I’m not too hopeful!!!

A separate email will be going out today to homeroom parents for
conference sign up.  They will be scheduled for the last week of
October.


Coming Up Next Week:


Spelling:  Our second spelling test will take place today. Menu homework
was also due. On Tuesday, students will be getting their new words and
menu. It’ll be due on or before Friday, October 25.


Reading & Language Arts: Morty the Meany and Morty and the Twice Fit Mice
will be the stories we’re reading this week. We’ll also start our unit on
descriptive writing. 

We started Daily Oral Language this week, focusing on capitalization and
end marks. There will be a quiz on Friday.


October reading logs are due by November 1.


Social Science: We are studying Downers Grove with our focus on
Pierce Downer, Israel Blodgett and his family, the Potawami Indians, and
the Underground Railroad. 


Mrs. Klacza's Math Class: We are moving along in Unit 3. This week’s 
focus will be on multi-digit subtraction. There will be a short checkpoint quiz on Wednesday.

Week of 10/7/19 - 10/11/19

What a weird weather week we had this week; talk about a giant dip
in temperature! Fall picture packets are coming home today. Check your
child's backpack!! Enjoy the brisk weekend everyone!


Coming Up Next Week:


Spelling:  Three menu activities are required to be turned in on or before
Friday, 10/11. The test will also be on Friday the 11th. 


Reading & Language Arts:  This week we’ll be reading The Tortoise and 
the Hare, focusing on theme (lesson.) The students will also be 
completing a fun growth mindset activity. 


October reading logs are due by November 1.


Social Science: We have now completed our unit on hemispheres. Next
week, we begin our Downers Grove unit!  First up will be the history
0f DG starting with our founder, Pierce Downer  This unit leads to
a really fun field trip coming up in the near future.




Mrs. Klacza's Math Class: We have now completed Unit 1 in our Bridges 
series. Next week, we’ll start Unit 3.  We are skipping Unit 2 and will
return to it after Unit 3.  We feel the flow is better this way.
Our specific focus will be rounding numbers to the nearest 10 and 100.
