Week of 5/5/14 - 5/9/14

It was great seeing so many of you at our Open House last night!   I hope you enjoyed seeing all the work your child has done throughout our year.  I’m very proud of them!!
This coming week we will be MAPs testing for the final time in third grade.  Please make sure your child eats a healthy breakfast and gets a good night’s sleep, particularly before our testing days of Wednesday and Friday.  Also, I must emphasize how important a healthy snack is DAILY!  We sit and eat every morning and it helps the children focus and feel good!
Coming up the week:
Spelling:  This week our spelling list will consist of the second half of the students’ and teachers’ names.  There is no challenge work.  If a student gets 0, 1, or 2 wrong on Monday’s pretest, he/she will have the same homework as everyone else, but will be exempt from Friday’s test.  I’ll assign the homework as we go...

English:  We will be working on narrative writing this week.

Reading:  We will be continuing our Egypt unit this week.  We are comparing the text in several Egypt books we have, specifically two books on ancient Egypt and one on Tut’s mummy.

Social Studies:  We will continue chapter 9 this week.  There will be a Lesson 2 open book/notes quiz on Tuesday.

Science:   This week we will continue the unit entitled “Getting Ready for Science.”  It focuses on Inquiry Skills and the Scientific Method.  There will be an open book/notes graded review on Lesson 3 on Wednesday.   It looks like our science test will occur on Tuesday, 5/13.

Mrs. Klacza's Math Class:  Our chapter 14 Geometry test will take place on Tuesday.  We will review on Monday.  We will then back peddle a bit and begin chapter 13 on perimeter and area.
