Week of 4/28/14 - 5/2/14

We are entering our last week of April, first week of May. The year is certainly winding down. Please make sure you check your child's grades online from time to time.
I’d like to invite you all to our Open House/Book Fair night on Thursday, May 1, from 6:30-8:00 p.m.  You’ll be able to view all the great projects we've been working on throughout the year AND visit the 4th and 5th grade classrooms.  I look forward to seeing you all then!
Coming up the week:
Spelling:  This week our spelling list will consist of half the students’ and teachers’ names.  The other half will be on next week’s list.  There is no challenge work.  If a student gets 0, 1, or 2 wrong on Monday’s pretest, he/she will have the same homework as everyone else, but will be exempt from Friday’s test.  I’ll assign the homework as we go...

English:  We’re continuing our friendly letter writing unit by writing to our second grade pen pals!!   This is always an exciting time for the third graders.  We will be working on narrative writing toward the end of the week.

Reading:  We will be continuing our Poetry unit this week.  We are also starting our Egypt unit.

Social Studies:  We will begin chapter 9, lesson 1, on earning, spending, and saving money.  Our first open book/notes quiz will occur on Tuesday.

Science:   This week we will continue the unit entitled “Getting Ready for Science.”  It focuses on Inquiry Skills and the Scientific Method.  There will be an open book/notes graded review on Friday.

Mrs. Klacza's Math Class:  We will work in our Geometry unit, which is part of chapter 14.  There will be a short quiz on lessons 1-4 on Wednesday.  Future test date:  May 6.

Important Dates:
5/1 - Open House and Book Fair (6:30 - 8:00)
5/16 - Early Dismissal (11:00)
5/26 - Memorial Day (day off)
