Week of 1/15/18 -1/19/18

We have had some crazy weather so far in 2018! Please make sure your child is prepared for whatever is forecasted that day. Now let’s get through the rest of January!! Before you know it, we’ll be celebrating Valentine’s Day!!

We celebrate Dr. Martin Luther King’s birthday on Monday.  We talked about this great, peaceful man today and watched Our Friend Martin. Ask your child about it!  Enjoy your 3-day weekend in his honor!

Coming Up Next Week:

Spelling:   The three spelling homework activities will be due on or before Friday, 1/19.  The test will also occur on that day.

Reading & Language Arts:  Continuing with our culture unit, we will be reading and discussing The Matchbox Diary.  I will be asking each student to bring in something small from home that represents them (that could basically fit into a small box.)   We’ll discuss that on Wednesday and it will be due in on Thursday.

Keep reading daily and filling in the January Log!   It will be due on or before February 1.

Social Science: We will continue chapter 3 in Social Studies this week.  It focuses on people moving to new places and various cultures.  There will be short, open book, open notes graded reviews after each section/lesson in the chapter. This coming week, we’ll read lesson 2 and take notes.  On Thursday, the students will take a short graded review (open notes, open book.)

Mrs. Klacza's Math Class:  A pretest/study guide will be going home today.  It will be due back on Wednesday, 1/17.  The unit 4 test will be on Thursday, 1/18.  Remind your children that it’s never a bad idea to practice math facts.  We have started our times table tests.  Today the students also received a x3 practice sheet.  I’ll be quizzing them on their 3 facts on Wednesday.  Retake will be on Friday.

Important Dates:
1/15  - Martin Luther King’s birthday (day off)
2/1   - Early Dismissal (11:00)
2/14 - Valentine’s day celebration

Have a great 3-day weekend!!
