Week of 1/30/17 - 2/3/17

We'll be starting a 5 week session of Junior Achievement on Wednesday. Mr. Dan Blocker will be coming in to teach our third graders. He is an awesome volunteer and we are always so pleased to invite him into our third grade world.

It looks to be a bit chillier this weekend, but for January, I’ll take it!   Have a great one and check out what we are doing next week...
Coming up Next Week:
Spelling:   New Spelling words and a homework menu will be coming home on Monday with your child.  Remember, students should choose one activity from each column, and one “extra” activity of their choice, any column.  The homework is due on or before 2/10.  They may hand it in whenever it’s finished!  Also, I’m happy to print any homework done on the chromebook.

Reading & Language Arts:  We continue our unit Culture and Traditions. The Country reports were due today (Friday.)  We’ll be starting on our “Culture Day” slideshows soon.  A letter and other information will be coming home shortly, probably next week.
Keep on reading for the January log!   They are due on or before February 1 (Wednesday.)  I typically give the children one “grace” day; however, they are worth 10 points and if they’re not submitted, no points will be given.   If the Log is lost, one can easily be made at home (I’ve also been known to accept letters from parents verifying the 20 days of reading!)

Social Studies:  We’ll be reading out of our Social Studies textbooks during our reading block, as we learn about immigration and culture.  Students have been collaboratively working on note taking and open book quizzes.   This is a cross-curricular activity.  Grades will be appearing as part of English/Language Arts.

Science:   We’ll finish up our unit on Matter!   Our Chapter 11 test will be on Tuesday, 1/31.  On Monday, we’ll play “Numbered Heads Together” as a review.  Ask your child about it!   It’s really fun :)

Mrs. Klacza's Math Class:  We have begun Unit 5, Multiplication, Division, and Area.  We’ll specifically be focusing on using arrays to multiply and divide.  Additionally, the practice sheets for X4 will be going home on Monday; students will be tested on those 4s on Friday, Feb. 3.

Important Dates:
2/2 - Early Dismissal for Teacher Institute
214 - Valentine's Day party
2/17 & 2/20 - Days off for Conferences & Presidents' Day

Have a great weekend!
