Week of 2/8/16 - 2/12/16

Happy 100 Days of School!   Where did the time go?  It seems like we were just meeting each other at Open House and here we are, in February!
Our Valentine’s Day party will be on Thursday.  I’ve sent home a roster for valentines; please feel free to send them in with your child at any time.  The students will be passing them out before the party.

Coming up next week:
Spelling:  A new spelling list will be going home on Monday.  Students should be sorting their words every night.  Six activities (2 from each column)  need to be completed by Friday, 2/19.  The test will be on 2/19 as well.
Reading & Language Arts:  We’re continuing our culture and traditions unit.  We’re starting Throw Your Tooth on the Roof  this week. Students will read about various cultures and the ways they “dispose of” their teeth after they fall out.

We’re continuing fiction novels this week during Read to Self.   Students are required to complete a book report as they did with their mystery novels.  These will mostly be done in class during our daily stations. The final products are due on or before March 1.

Social Studies:  We are on hiatus!!  We’ll be starting our Chicago unit soon!

Science:   We’re finishing up the study of matter.  The final chapter test on matter will be on Tuesday.  A study guide has been handed out.  This test is not an open book test.  We’ll review on Monday.

Mrs. Klacza's Math Class:  We’ll continue Unit 5 on multiplication, division, and area.  We’ll specifically work on multiplication and division story problems.  There will be a short check up quiz on Tuesday.

Important Dates:
2/11 - Valentine’s Day party
2/12 & 2/15 - No School (conferences & President’s day)
¾  - Teacher Institute, no school
3/15 - Election Day, no school

Have a great weekend!
