Week of 1/11/16 - 1/15/16

Happy New Year!   It was a wonderful 2 week break but I am happy to be back in a routine!  I hope you are all feeling the same way.
Good news!  Emily’s Mom and Dad put my name into a drawing at Marquette Bank in Bolingbrook to win a $200 gift card for classroom needs and…………… (drumroll...)  We won!!   I promise to put it to good use.
MAP testing is next week; Tuesday is reading and Wednesday is math.  Please make sure your child gets a good breakfast and brings a healthy snack to school.  Also, a good night’s sleep is a must!!

Coming up next week:
Spelling:   On Monday the students will each receive 2 copies of their spelling words.  One they will cut up for sorting purposes, the other will remain in their spelling pocket.  Menu 1 (pink) will be coming home on Monday, also, and remember, only 6 activities need to be completed by 1/22.  The test will be on 1/22 as well.

Reading & Language Arts:  We’re continuing our culture and traditions unit.  We’re finishing up The Keeping Quilt. by Patricia Polacco.  A vocabulary quiz will take place on Monday.  Please make sure your child reads through their vocabulary slides on Classroom (chromebooks.)

We’re reading mystery novels this month.   Rather than an Independent Reading Contract, students are required to complete a book report.  These will mostly be done in class during our daily stations.

Social Studies:  We are on hiatus!!

Science:   We’re beginning the study of matter.  We’ll be reading and taking notes this week.  On Monday, an interesting homework assignment will be coming home.  Be on the look out!!

Mrs. Klacza's Math Class:  We’re continuing Unit 4, focusing this week on multi-step problems, unit fractions, and comparing and ordering fractions.  There will be a measurement checkpoint on Tuesday.

Important Dates:
1/12 - Reading MAP test
1/13 - Math MAP test
1/15 - Early Dismissal (11:35)
1/18 - Martin Luther King, Jr. Bday - day off!

Have a great weekend!
