Week of 4/27/15 - 5/1/15

Thursday is our annual Open House and Book Fair.  Doors open at 6:30.  Please come and see what your children have made and how delightful our classroom looks.
Thank you to all the families that bid on my auction prize.  We’ll have a wonderful party soon!   Please be aware that this coming week the students will be taking the MAP tests for math and reading.  Our days are Monday for reading and Wednesday for math.  It’s important that the children eat a healthy breakfast and lunch and get a good night’s sleep.
Coming up this week:
Spelling:  Lesson 25.  Pretest Monday/Test Friday.   15 sentences due Tuesday. (Note this is different than the typical homework.)   Other HW due Thursday.

Language Arts: We will continue our unit “Tales as Old as Time.”  The focus of the next several weeks will be fables and myths.

We will continue our WOW words this week.   The students will learn a new word every day, Monday-Thursday.   The quiz will be on Friday.

Social Studies:  We’ll be continuing our final section in our Eyewitness Chicago books.  We’ll be reading about the Republican Convention of 1860, the treatment of Black Americans in Chicago, and the jazz music scene.  We’ll then skip ahead to more recent events like the Democratic Convention of 1968, the first woman mayor (Jane Byrne), and the building of skyscrapers.  Look out for the study guide, which I do allow to be used on the test.  No dates have been set yet.

Science:   Our chapter 10 Test on seasons, the phases of the moon, and the planets will be Tuesday.  A study guide has gone home.  We will play a review game on Monday.

Mrs. Klacza's Math Class:  Our next unit will be Unit 13, perimeter.   MAP testing will be occurring this week so we won’t have math on Tuesday or Wednesday.  There are only 5 lessons in Unit 13, so a quiz will occur sometime the week of 5/4.

Important Dates:
4/27 & 4/29 - MAP testing for Klacza
4/30 - Open House & Book Fair 6:30-8:00
5/15 - Early Dismissal
5/25 - Memorial Day (no school)
6/4 - 3rd grade bowling field trip
6/8 - All school picnic and field days
6/9 - Last day of school - 11:00 dismissal

Have a great weekend!   Mrs. Klacza
