Week of 9/23/13 - 9/27/13

Johnny Appleseed's birthday is on Thursday, September 26. Three of our parents have graciously volunteered to bring in juice boxes, bowls, and spoons. Thank you! Don't forget to send in the cored, peeled, sliced apple on 9/26.

Friday is an early dismissal day. PV will be dismissed at 11:00.

Coming up this week:

Spelling: We will be taking a pretest on LESSON 5 on Monday.  The cursive worksheet is homework on Monday. On Tuesday, depending on what group your child is in (challenge or non-challenge) the homework will either be 2 challenge activities or ABC order. The homework assigned on Tuesday will be due on Thursday.  The final test is on Friday. The students will only be tested on the regular spelling words; challenge words will not be tested.

English: We are finishing up Chapter 1 this week, “The Sentence.” An English test on Chapter 1 will be on Tuesday. We will review on Monday. Please disregard the assignment notebook which has been saying the test will be on Monday. That is incorrect. Monday review/Tuesday test. I have been encouraging the students to bring home their English textbooks to study. They may keep them at home until Tuesday.

The “Me Bags” should be coming in to school on Monday. We will be writing our presentations this week. I can't wait to hear and see what the children have to say about themselves!

Reading: We are finishing up Lost and Found and will start The Balad of Mulan. Inferencing is the skill we will practice with that story.

Social Studies: There will be a quiz on Hemispheres Monday. We will then study the continents and oceans with a quiz date on that information planned for Thursday. Students should refer to their Social Studies pocket for worksheets to study.

Science: Chapter 4, Ecosystems. Lesson 2 will be read and discussed. On Thursday, we will have a “graded lesson review.” Students will be allowed to use their textbooks and any notes we take on this lesson. This one counts!!

Mrs. Klacza's Math Class:  There will be a test on Chapter 1 on Tuesday. Please make sure your child reviews all the lessons: place value, rounding to 10s and 100s, and problem solving. Monday we

will practice with a pretest. Then we will be on to Chapter 2, Addition.

Important Dates:

9/26 – Johnny Appleseed's birthday
9/27 – School Improvement Day, early dismissal (11:00 PV)

Have a great weekend! Mrs. Klacza
