Week of 9/16/13 - 9/20/13

What a week this has been!  First it's in the high 90's and now it's in the 60's!!   Please make sure your child is dressed for the weather.   

This week I will introduce the "Me Bag" to my students.  They will start their presentations on Monday, 9/23.  Look for directions in your child's binder on Wednesday.

Coming up this week:

Spelling: We will be taking a pretest on LESSON 4 on Monday.  The cursive worksheet is homework on Monday. On Tuesday, depending on what group your child is in (challenge or non-challenge) the homework will either be 2 challenge activities or ABC order. The homework assigned on Tuesday will be due on Thursday.  The final test is on Friday. The students will only be tested on the regular spelling words; challenge words will not be tested.

English: We are working on Chapter 1 this week, “The Sentence,” specifically lessons 4-6 . There will be a quiz on Subjects & Predicates (lessons 4 & 5) on Wednesday. I encourage the students to take home their text books and study those lessons. An English test on Chapter 1 will be on 9/24. We will review on Friday and Monday of the following week.  Has your child told you about Mr. Morton?

Reading: We will continue our overview of reading skills this week, specifically, making connections and self-questioning. Later in the week, we will start the story Lost and Found which will help us to sequence text.

Social Studies: After our directions quiz on Monday, we will read about the equator and the hemispheres. There will be a quiz on this information the following Monday, 9/23.

Science: Chapter 4, Ecosystems. I had mentioned an open book/note quiz on Monday, but I am pushing that back. It will probably occur mid-week or later in the week.

Mrs. Klacza's Math Class:  We will finish Chapter 1 on place value this week. Specifically, we will focus on rounding and problem solving. There will be a test on Tuesday, 9/24.

9/26 – Johnny Appleseed's birthday

9/27 – School Improvement Day, early dismissal (11:00 PV)
