Week of 4/2/12 - 4/6/12

We all had a wonderful time on our Naper Settlement field trip. A great big thank you to John's dad and Elise's mom for trudging along with us and keeping the peace :) I'd also like to thank Kelly and her family for getting chopsticks, fortune cookies, and placemats from Tai San Chef for our upcoming China activities. Kelly also created a huge, fabulous thank you card that the entire 5th grade signed. If you have a moment, please try to go to Tai San and thank them for their very generous donation to our kids!

I hope everyone has a wonderful, safe spring break week.

Coming up this week:

Spelling: Lesson 26: Pretest Monday, spelling practice HW due Wednesday, workbook pages due Thursday, final test on Thursday.

English: Lessons 4, linking verbs, will be studied this week.

Reading: This week we continue our study of China. We will be researching our China books, the internet, and a variety of other non-fiction materials in order to complete an outline which will then be used to create a China travel brochure. The students will also be creating their own pandas for our Pandas on Parade, dragons, and Chinese lanterns.

Social Studies: As we continue chapter 10, we will focus on lesson 3, Ratifying the Constitution. I am looking at Wednesday, 4/11, for our test.

Science: We will be starting our next chapter this week on oceans.

Mrs. Klacza's Math Class: We will continue working with fractions for the next couple weeks, specifically, the addition & subtraction of like/unlike fractions. We'll start with chapter 13 and do lessons 1 and 5 only. Chapter 14, lessons 3, 4, & 5 will follow.
