Week of 5/16/11 - 5/ 20/11

Has your child talked to you about the 5th grade celebration we were treated to by our PTO? It was absolutely wonderful and a great big thank you to all the parents that made it possible.

Don’t forget to sign up for the 2 mile Walk Day on Tuesday, May 24th at Prairieview School. All proceeds from the event will go to the American Red Cross to help the victims of the earthquake in Japan. There will also be a raffle to help raise money for the cause, and any donations would be appreciated. (gift cards, sport items, games, services, small goodies). Anyone who would like to volunteer on May 24th, please e-mail Mrs. Cavoto ccavot@ccsd66.org or Mrs. Sulima Ssulima@ccsd66.org to let them know.

Coming up this week:

Mrs. Klacza's Reading Class: We continue to read The Wish Giver, which is in the fantasy genre. The second story is called “The Tree Man.” We will continue to focus on story structure, character traits, and figurative language, especially colloquialism.

Spelling: Lesson 29 – Pretest on Monday; Homework due on Thursday/Test on Friday.

English: We have finished our entire text book... Hooray! We will work on persuasive writing this week.

Social Studies: This week, the students are writing their very own “Fortunately, Unfortunately” booklets to go along with lesson 2 on the industrial revolution. We will then read lesson 3. A chapter 12 test is planned for Tuesday, 5/24.

Science: We continue our ocean study and will create our own ocean floors this week. An open note/book quick study will occur on Tuesday for lesson 1. We'll then read and take notes for lesson 2 with a quick study on that lesson Friday. I predict a test in the near future! I'll keep the students posted...

Mrs. Klacza's Math Class: We will finish chapter 9 this week on mean, median, and mode. The test will be Thursday.
