Week of 11/2/09 - 11/6/09

Happy Halloween everyone! The new, improved Halloween festivities were awesome! I'd like to thank all those parents who helped organize everything; in our classroom it was Mrs. Gibbons and Mrs. Meyer who handled the activities, and Mrs. Moschetto, Mrs. Laviste, and Mrs. O'Leary who sent in the yummy treats and drinks. The children really enjoyed creating their pumpkin works of art! It's always fun, also, seeing so many parents outside watching our crazy costume parade!!

Our picture retake day has been moved to Thursday, November 19th. Mark your calendars! We will also be hosting Mr. Laviste for Junior Achievement for one last day on Wednesday. Ask your child what he/she learned! Our Robert Crown field trip is this Friday. Please send a lunch with your child that day; there is always a possibility we won't make it back for the hot lunch and “better safe than sorry." Don't forget to set your clocks back an hour this weekend!

Coming up this week:

Spelling: Lesson 10, Final y words and suffixes. Test Friday.

Reading: We will continue learning about the important reading skill of visualizing by studying tall tales. So far, we have read about Paul Bunyan, Sally Ann Thunder Ann Whirlwind, and Davy Crockett. Furthermore, the students have been busily creating their own tall tales. We will be sharing those this week.

Language Arts: The students will be starting Unit 2 this week, Nouns. A new Schoolhouse Rock song will be introduced.

Social Studies: Lesson 2 (Cities, Towns, and Farms) will be read and discussed this week. The Trade Fair will take place on Thursday, November 5. Signs should be created and brought in along with the items the students wish to trade.

Science: We plan to finish Chapter 5 this week on ecosystems with a test planned for Tuesday, November 10. There will be a study guide going home on Thursday.

Mrs. Klacza's Math Class:
It is hard to believe we made it through the Algebra chapter with very little bruising :) Our Chapter 4 test will take place on Tuesday. Our next chapter will be on decimals, but we will not be starting until the week of 11/9.

Important Notes:

11/6 - Robert Crown field trip (sack lunch needed)
11/11 – Veterans Day (no school)
11/19 – Picture retakes
11/25 – 11/27 Thanksgiving holiday

Have a great weekend and a safe Halloween! Mrs. Klacza
