Week of 10/10/16 - 10/14/16

We had our first monthly Pride awards presentation yesterday!  Congratulations to Abby for winning the award for Empathy!!  We are halfway through the 1st trimester of third grade!  Can you believe it?  Hopefully, grades are being monitored on line.  If you are having problems doing so, please call the office.

If you child would like to be part of the Prairieview PE Bulletin board, please take an "action" picture of your child showing some type of PHYSICAL ACTIVITY that they are involved in outside of school.  Please get these in as soon as possible.  I will accept pictures as they come in.  Any questions?  Please contact me at tcushing@ccsd66.org  Thanks!

Have a wonderful Columbus Day weekend!   Please send some positive thoughts out to those struggling with Hurricane Matthew, particularly my daughter Courtney who just moved down to Charleston last weekend!!

Coming up next week:
Spelling:   Spelling homework (3 items on the menu, 1 from each column) will be due on or before 10/14 (next Friday.)  A test will also occur on that day.

Reading & Language Arts:  We will continue writing our fractured fairy tales this week.  They need to be 5 paragraphs long and be similar to Cinderella.   Please feel free to read your child’s story on their Chromebook.  Furthermore, we will be starting myths this week, which goes along with our “Tales as Old as Time” unit.

Please keep reading and filling out the October reading log.

Social Studies:  We’re taking a break from Social Studies as we explore Science.

Science:   We continue Chapter 9, “The Water Cycle.”  Our third lesson is about weather and clouds.  The Lesson 3 Graded Review will occur on Monday, 10/17.  Keep in mind that the students can use their book and their notes to take this quiz.  On Thursday, 10/20, there will be a science test on the entire unit.  A study guide will go home on 10/17.  This is a typical test, no notes or book may be used while the students are taking it.  It does require studying!

Mrs. Klacza's Math Class:  As we continue Unit 2, Introduction to Multiplication, I’d like to let you know that there will be a short checkpoint quiz on Wednesday.  It will be on the lessons we’ve learned thus far in Module 1 of Unit 2.   We’ll then continue the various methods of solving multiplication problems.

Important Dates:
10/10 - Columbus Day (day off)
10/13 - Book Fair (6:30-8:00)
10/31 - Halloween party and parade

Have a great 3-day weekend!!
