Week of 5/6/13 - 5/10/13

Can you even believe we are already in the month of May? My, how time flies!  Our pen pal letters are written and mailed. We can't wait to get our replies!! I just wrote a poem! In addition to studying Egypt in our reading block, we'll also be studying poetry.

Coming up this week:

Spelling: Classmates' names!! We'll pretest on Monday. We'll do half the names this week and half the names next week. I will even include some of our teachers' names. The only HW this week will be cursive, and that will be due on Wednesday.

English: This week we'll start unit 7 in our textbook on writing personal narratives. The students love to write so this should only help them perfect their skills.

Reading & Social Studies: We will be continuing our study of Egypt!! It's a cross-curricular unit, involving both reading strategies, learned throughout the school year, and lots of interesting social studies activities as well. We'll also be studying poetry.

Science: This week, we will continue the very first chapter in our textbook, “Getting Ready for Science.” Especially focused on will be the scientific method. Our tentative test date will be 5/16.

Mrs. Klacza's Math Class: This week, we continue to work on chapter 23 on multiplying by a 1 digit number. I've moved the quiz date to Monday, 5/6. I've also moved the quiz on 8's to Tuesday. We'll start our division chapter, 24, on Tuesday.  Please use the text book for practice problems for our quiz Monday. I explained how the students can do the problem, then check it with a calculator.

Important Dates:

Week of 5/6 - Teachers' Appreciation Week
5/17 – Early Dismissal
5/27 – Memorial Day (day off)
6/5 – Last Day of School (Summer begins!)

Have a great weekend!! Mrs. Klacza
