Week of 4/22/13 - 4/26/13

Please be advised that Open House and the book fair will take place on Tuesday at 6:30-8:00 p.m. The children were so disappointed with the cancellation yesterday, but so happy today to hear that it will go on!! Let's hope we maintain some dry weather from here on in!!

Monday is Earth Day!   If your child has an Earth Day shirt, this would be the day to wear it.  If not, greens, blues, or any "earthy" color would be fun to wear on Monday.

Coming up this week:

Spelling: Lesson 24 – Pretest Monday, Test Friday. HW for “regular” spelling words: Write a story using (at least) 15 of the words and ABC order. HW for “challenge” spelling words: 2 challenge activities.

English: We will begin our unit on personal letter writing. This all leads to our pen pals project with the second grade! My, has time flown!!

Reading & Social Studies: We will be starting our study of Egypt!! It's a cross-curricular unit, involving both reading strategies, learned throughout the school year, and lots of interesting social studies activities as well.

Science: This week, we will begin to tackle the very first chapter in our textbook, “Getting Ready for Science.” Especially focused on will be science inquiry tools and skills and the Scientific Method.

Mrs. Klacza's Math Class:
Chapter 19 tests will be returned on Monday. We will then begin (and end) a very short chapter 17 on Algebra patterns. Expect a checkpoint quiz on Thursday before we start chapter 23 on multiplying by a 1 digit number.

Important Dates:
5/1 & 5/3 – MAPs testing for Mrs. Klacza's class
5/17 – Early Dismissal
5/27 – Memorial Day (day off)
