We
are halfway through the school year; I am amazed it has gone by so
quickly! Please make sure you check your child's 2nd
quarter grades.
Monday
we celebrate the birthday of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. We have
talked about this man of peace extensively in the last couple days
and how important it is to treat everyone equally and respectfully.
Coming
up next week:
Spelling: Pretest on Tuesday, Lesson 15; test on Friday. Cursive HW due Wednesday. Two challenge activities OR wb page 10 (Vol II) & ABC order due Friday (I will extend due to shorter week.)
English: This week, we will start dabbling in our text book and begin adjectives while we work on our autobiographies. Sorry, we didn't get to adjectives last week...
Reading: Our reading skill this week is Making Connections. We will also be learning more about main idea/details. We'll work on these skills as we read the story Seal Surfer in our basal readers. Book Buddies will also begin this week. The students will be paired off and will both read the same novel. They will have to plan out the reading with a calendar over a 2 week time frame. There will also be a packet which is filled out in conjunction with each day's reading.
Social Studies: We are ending chapter 3 with our unit test on Friday, 1/25. Culture day is Tuesday, 1/29. Students will each present something special from their very own culture on that day. They will have 1-3 minutes to do so, and each needs a visual aid. Please refer to the letter and rubric in your child's binder if you are unsure of what is expected.
Science:
We'll continue chapter 14 this week with lesson 1, "What Is Heat?"
Lesson
2 ("What is Light?") will be studied toward the end of the week.
Mrs. Klacza's Math Class: We began the metric system today (chapter 21.) We'll continue next week with length, capacity, and mass. Friday we'll have a “stations review” of the first 4 lessons. Our tentative test date is Friday, 2/1.
