Our
coming week will be very exciting and busy! It's time to work, as
you can see from the schedule below. Enjoy the 3-day Labor Day
weekend.
Coming
up this week:
Spelling: First lesson of the year – Pretest Tuesday, Test Friday
English: We will begin Unit 1 this week, “The Sentence.” There will be homework on days we learn a new lesson. Some students will finish in school but I encourage them to bring it home anyway and go over it again.
Reading: We'll start our reading block this year with an overview of all the different skills: predicting, inferring, visualizing, monitoring/clarifying, and decoding/phonics. Of course, each skill will be revisited in detail throughout the year. Also, I am sending home the reading calendar for September. The students can start marking their 20-30 minutes of reading as soon as possible. Don't forget, each square requires your initials or signature!
Social Studies: We'll focus on directions and the compass rose this week. A study guide is going home today; students will keep it in their social studies pockets and use as needed.
Science:
We'll briefly start our first unit on ecosystems this week.

Mrs. Klacza's Math Class: Welcome to my math class and my blog. This week we start with Chapter 1, place value. We'll be focusing on points on a number line, and place value with 3 and 4 digits. There will be homework every night. Please make sure you take a look in your child's binder pocket daily. Also, if the homework is light on any particular day, use those flash cards to practice math facts.
