Week of 4/16/12 - 4/20/12

It was great seeing so many of you at TGFD graduation and at the Open House/Book Fair. Congrats to John for his “Honorable Mention” award for the Essay Contest through Citizen's Bank!

Coming up this week:

Spelling: Lesson 28: Pretest Monday, spelling practice HW due Tuesday, workbook pages due Thursday, final test on Friday.

English: Lessons 5, 6, & 7 will cover the present, past, and future tense of verbs. This is a very long chapter. Rather than wait until we are done with the entire chapter, I am cutting it in half for testing purposes. There will be a quiz on lessons 1-8 on 4/24. After we study the rest of the lessons, I will quiz on those.

Reading: We will be looking at how figurative language is used in poetry. This week we will specifically be looking at poetry that uses similes, imagery, onomatopoeia, and personification.

Social Studies: This week we will plunge in to chapter 11, “The Young United States.” Our first lesson revolves around Washington as President and then we'll learn about Jefferson and his quest for more land... Our young U.S. needs some elbow room!!

Science: We will be writing notes on lesson 2 (how the oceans move) and taking a quick study on Wednesday.

Mrs. Klacza's Math Class: This week we leave our world of fractions and study measurement. Customary and metric length will begin the week and then we'll move on to converting linear units. There will be a quiz on the first 3 lessons on Thursday.

Important Dates:

April 25 -- Early Dismissal
April 25 -- PTO DineOut Fundraiser -- Panda Express
May 18 -- Early Dismissal Day

Have a great weekend! Mrs. Klacza
