Week of 4/13/09 - 4/17/09

After a wonderful spring break, it was nice to return with recharged batteries and get down to business! We are in the “home stretch” now with only a couple months of school left so it's important for all of us to work hard and stay focused.

Parents, please remember our TGFD graduation on Monday. It would be great to get a big turnout to show support for this program and our children who worked hard and truly took it seriously. It will begin at 8:45 in the gym here at PV.

Also, please think about cleaning out your pantries and donating non-perishable food to our PV food drive. There are many families who need a little extra help during this economic crisis and we 5th grade families can easily help them by donating a few items. (We are also competing against the other two grades!!)

Have a wonderful Easter weekend, everyone!

Coming up this week:

Mrs. Klacza's Reading Class:

Spelling: Lesson 26 - review lesson. Test on Friday. There will not be a pretest this week; everyone will take the Friday test.

Reading: We continue reading our novel Night of the Twisters. I will introduce the book clubs this week. Students will continue answering questions in their “twister” journals.

Language Arts: We continue and complete our Me Front Page activity with visits to the computer lab to type using the Publisher program. As I mentioned last week, this activity utilizes many writing skills we've been using throughout the year: expository, narrative, poetry, quotations, using the third person, etc., etc. At the end of the week, we will start our next English chapter on Pronouns.

Mrs. Klacza's Math Class:

We will complete chapter 14 this week. After much review on Wednesday, I'm planning on giving the students a “quest” on Thursday. Please notice that only Lessons 3, 4, & 5 have been covered. The lessons were specifically about adding and subtracting mixed numbers.

Mrs. Klacza's Homeroom:

Social Studies: Our Chapter 10 test will be on Tuesday. We will review on Monday. Chapter 11, “The Young U.S.” will be started. Our nation is growing and we need a little “elbow room.” We will find out how Thomas Jefferson solved that problem!

Science: We continue our study of weather and the water cycle.

Important Notes:
4/13 – TGFD Graduation at 8:45
4/16 – Open House and Book Fair at PV; come visit our classroom!
4/24 – Early Dismissal
4/29 – Family Book Club night
Have a great weekend! Mrs. Klacza
