Week of April 7, 2008

We just completed our first week back after spring break and it sure seemed long! We had so many 4 day weeks before the break, I got kind of used to it... It is good, however, to have the extra time for all the great fifth grade learning going on in Room 208!
Thank you to all the families that sent in healthy treats for our Reading Party today. It was much appreciated and a welcome change from all the “junk” food of the Easter season.

We had a terrific assembly of Amazing Animals this week and we sure do appreciate our PTO who provides these great extras. Thank you very much.

Coming up next week:

Spelling: Lesson 25 – Test Friday

Reading: We have begun the study of China!! We kicked it off with a fascinating slide show given by Mrs. Bouton. Let's just say I'm glad to be an American! We have started our Pandas (which should be finished by the students at home this weekend.) We will continue our research for our travel brochures. We will also be making dragons and lanterns.
Language Arts: We will finish Adjectives and have our test on Thursday.

Social Studies: We will continue reading and taking notes Chapter 10 this week, specifically Lessons 3. The students will be making an “Important Book” for this lesson. Chapter 10 test will be on Friday. Does your child know the Preamble yet?? You tube has the Preamble Schoolhouse Rock on it if you want to listen to the version we listen to!
Science: The Owner's Manuals are complete and we will begin the study of the skin.

Math: (Mrs. Klacza's math students, only) Math tests will be handed back and reviewed on Monday. We will then start Chapter 8, specifically the multiplication of decimals.

Important Notes:
4/9 Family Book Club Night
4/17 Open House and Book Fair (6:45-8:30 p.m.)
4/24 Early Dismissal
Spirit Days:
4/11 Baseball day
4/18 Rock band day (shirts)
4/25 Decade day (dress in the 50's, 60's, 70's, 80's, or 90's apparel)

Have a terrific week! Mrs. Klacza
